Chatham Estates
Chester, PA

With the receipt of a grant from HUD in 1998, the Chester Housing Authority was able to make several major advancements in housing the city’s underprivileged. The crumbling old buildings of the former Lamokin Village at 7th Street between Tilghman and Flower Streets were demolished and new, modern family housing now stands in its place, adjacent to senior and single unit developments. Known as Chatham Estates Family Development, the new 3.3-acre neighborhood is composed of 110 family townhouses, a community center for job training, and nearby shopping. With this development and others serving as a catalyst for positive change, the Chester Housing Authority believes that it is now able to provide the best and safest possible affordable housing for the Chester community.
