Independence Hall was built in 1732 as the Pennsylvania State House. Within its walls, the Declaration of Independence was signed and the US Constitution was debated and drafted. Daniel J. Keating Company was honored to be commissioned to restore Independence Hall and the adjacent Congress Hall and Old City Hall. Throughout the restoration, minimizing the loss of historic fabric was the primary goal. The original structural system was supplemented and strengthened with modern materials. Other systems had to be completely and carefully replaced including HVAC, sprinkler and electrical systems. Windows were restored and cosmetic interior renovations were completed. The historic building was strengthened to withstand its 1,000,000 annual visitors.
