Cultural And Historic Education Transportation Residential And Resort LEED Projects Live Webcams

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

One of Philadelphia’s very successful magnet schools, the High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) is located in South Broad Street’s most prominent neoclassical structure. The former Ridgway Library Building, designed by Addison Hutton and built in 1878, lingered for decades until it was transformed into a vibrant hall of learning. The sky-lit two-story Grand Hall was restored and is now CAPA’s main lobby. Historic reading rooms were transformed into the school library and rehearsal rooms. A new, four-story, 120,000-square-foot addition to the back of the building accommodates academic spaces and a 350-seat theater, while remaining respectful of the building’s historic integrity. Daniel J. Keating Company provided Construction Management services for the School District including preliminary and final estimating and management of all subcontractors working directly for the School District. The project received a National Trust for Historic Preservation Award for Adaptive Reuse.
