Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Roman Catholic High School occupies an important place in the hearts of many Philadelphians and the building has been a landmark in Center City since its construction in 1890. The new, 25,000-square-foot, two-story addition by Daniel J. Keating Company complements the historic building seamlessly. The steel-framed addition contains a library and media center, classrooms, and expanded cafeteria. The design utilizes contemporary building technology in a modern interpretation of the school's Gothic revival architectural tradition. The project also entailed the extensive renovation of the existing 40,000-square-foot structure, including main corridors and stairwell, gym upgrades, science classrooms, administrative offices, and a new student services suite. All the windows were replaced and the exterior masonry of the historic building was restored.

This project received an Award of Recognition from the American Institute of Architects, Philadelphia Chapter.
