Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The centerpiece of a busy neighborhood, SEPTA’s Frankford Transportation Center is a mixed-use structure at the northern end of Philadelphia’s busiest transit line. The 1042-car parking garage is on four structured levels. The geometric orientation of the garage matches that of the Main Terminal, and because the exposed structure of the garage is proposed as long-span precast concrete units, a visual balance has been achieved with three vertical stair towers connected to each of three bays. The towers have brick walls and extensive glazing. In addition, the tower nearest the terminal contains three elevators and connects to the pedestrian overpass above Bridge Street. It is an attractive, efficient and comfortable terminal complex that has significantly increased ridership.
